Is the HIPSTER Smart breathable?
HIPSTER™ Smart carrier top incorporates a double layer to protect and keep your baby warm and cozy on a colder day but is removable for hot summer days. The mesh material underneath keeps your baby cool so that he can stay in the carrier longer, more comfortably.
What is the difference between HIPSTER Smart and HIPSTER Plus?
HIPSTER Smart and HIPSTER Plus both have the same structural hip seat design with detachable double shoulders. HIPSTER Smart is designed to replace a diaper bag so a parent can leave the house with just their baby and the carrier.
How are the double shoulders attached to the hip seat?
The double shoulders are attached to the hipseat via a zipper and two buckles for extra safety.
How does HIPSTER™ Smart provide correct hip positioning?
Terms like “M position” and “knee to knee” is misleading at it focuses on the knees and not the position of the thigh bone. The focus of proper hip positioning should be on keeping the thighs supported at hip level so the thigh bone stays inside the hip socket. Our hip seat ensures baby’s thighs are fully supported at hip level at all times in all 9 carry positions. It’s impossible to wear your baby the wrong way. Forward facing seated position is only safe starting at 6 months old.
Can I nurse in the carrier?
It’s easy to nurse in our carriers. Lower the hip seat but moving down the waist belt so baby's head is at the right height, then loosen your shoulder straps for baby to nurse. Wearing double shirts allow you to nurse discretely in private while in public. Here’s a YouTube video on how to do it.
How big is the storage under the hip seat?
HIPSTER Essential and HIPSTER Plus have the same amout of storage, fitting 6 diapers (pampers size 2) while HIPSTER Smart has the largest storage and can fit 14 diapers (pampers size 2).
How do I wash this carrier?
All MiaMily products are machine washable. First remove the plastic seat insert from the hipseat, then close the waist belt so no velcro is exposed (exposed velcro may stick to other clothing). Machine wash with cold water in gentle cycle. Lay flat to air dry, do not tumble dry. For light cleaning, simply wipe clean with a damp towel.
When can I start forward facing?
You can start forward facing when baby is 6 months old when baby has strong head and neck control. Always check in with your baby when forward facing. When you see that your baby is sleepy, always turn your baby around so he can sleep facing you resting on your chest. The stimulation of forward facing in a carrier is the same as forward facing in a stroller. Overstimulation occurs only when your baby is tired but is not allowed to fall asleep.
Is it safe to forward face?
Our 3D hip seat ensures that the baby’s hips are always in the proper “M” position for healthy hip development, so it is safe to forward-face carry with our carrier. We recommend forward facing when your baby has good head and neck control which is usually around 4 months. You can test if your baby has strong head and neck control by leaning forward with your baby in the carrier facing forward. If his head falls forward and he is not able to lift his head up himself, then he is not ready for forward facing as when the head falls forward involuntarily, it could block airways.
When can I start back carrying?
You can put your baby in back carry when baby is 8 months old. It is important that you start back carry when your baby has strong head and neck control. Always check in with your baby when back carrying.
Do I need an infant insert?
Our infant insert ensures that your newborn head and neck are supported while in the carrier. We recommend using the infant insert from newborn until your baby has strong head and neck control, which is usually around 4 months. All Miamily baby carriers are compatible with our infant insert.
I'm petite size, will HIPSTER Smart fit me?
For petite moms, we recommend HIPSTER Essential because the waist belt is not as long as the HIPSTER Plus and HIPSTER Smart so there is less overlap of waist belt.
I’m plus size, will HIPSTER Smart fit me?
We recommend HIPSTER Plus and HIPSTER smart for fuller size parents. The waist belt of both HIPSTER Plus and HIPSTER Smart can fit a waist of 130 cm (51 inches or woman's pant size 22). With the extender belt, it can fit up to 180 cm (70 inches).
Can I use the carrier when I’m pregnant?
It’s definitely possible to use the carrier when pregnant. It’s actually very helpful as it helps you support your baby’s weight and relieves the pressure on your back but since every pregnancy is different, we recommend you first consult with your doctor before you choose to wear your child beyond the first trimester.
Can I tandemwear two MiaMily carriers?
Yes, tandemwearing is great for twins or close age siblings. To have better weight distribution for your back, put the heavier child on your back and the lighter child on your front. Load the back child first (we recommend to start back carrying at 8 months old). Once you have the first child in back carry, load the front carrier by putting its waist belt above the back carrier's waist belt. (Click here for photo)

- I'm IN LOVE
Still haven't use it (baby is due september), but the quality and functionality is amazing!
I did tons of research before I decided on this carrier and I am so happy I did! It's super comfortable for us and for baby. It's easy to adjust and has some amazing features. I can wear it for hours without my back bothering me and I can even nurse in it with small changes to the carrier adjustments. I absolutely love the extra storage space and the spots for my phone, water bottle and credit cards. This really is an amazing carrier and I would highly recommend.
